County approves budget, tax rate

KAUFMAN COUNTY—During the regular meeting of the Kaufman County Commissioners Court held Sept. 10 the fiscal year budget and tax rate were approved. County Judge Jakie Allen held a public hearing during the meeting for anyone to comment on the budget and tax rate to which there were no comments. The tax rate for fiscal year 2024-25 has been set to $0.415113 which was approved and adopted by the court.

The Sunday before Sept. 11 local first responders proceed through all municipalities around Cedar Creek Lake in honor of all 9/11 first responders. Participants in this year’s procession came from Gun Barrel City, Seven Points, Tool, Trinidad, Malakoff, Caney City, Log Cabin, Kemp, Southside, Eustace, Payne Springs and Mabank.

Henderson County FEMA aid reaches $6.8 million

HENDERSON COUNTY–As of the latest report, FEMA has distributed $6.8 million in direct aid to Henderson County residents following the severe storms in May. This substantial support, provided through the FEMA Individual and Households Program (IHP), has been crucial in helping the community recover.

Henderson County extends burn ban 28 days

HENDERSON COUNTY–Henderson County Commissioners’ Court voted Sept. 3 to extend the burn ban for 28 days, to Oct. 1, before the ban issued Aug. 20 expired the day after Labor Day.
According to the court’s discussion, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index as of Sept. 2 averaged 657 across the county, with a reading of 525 in the eastern end and a mark of 720 in the western part. County Judge Wade McKinney said County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg recommended the burn ban continue.
