Kerens, Cross Roads players receive All-District honors

HENDERSON, NAVARRO COUNTY–District 20-2A announced their All-District honors for the 2021 softball season, which includes multiple players from Kerens and Cross Roads following their playoff runs.
Kerens, which ended its season in the Regional semifinals, was led by 20-2A Co-Most Valuable Players Kenadee Lynch and Rylee Spivey. Kerens’ Jayson Engel was named 20-2A Coach of the Year, with Olivia Holt of Kerens named Utility Player of the Year.

A record 63 years in the breaking

MABANK–A record that had stood since 1959 in the history books of Mabank High School was finally broken at the Area meet in late April 2022.
The team of Ty’Rand Blanton, Beau Kilgore, Jayden Rodgers and Sean Henry broke the school record for the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:26.43, advancing to the Regional track meet just weeks ago.

GRAND SALINE–A no-hitter in game one and a two-out walk-off hit in game three during a May 12-14 best-of-three Regional quarterfinal series propelled the Kerens Lady ‘Cats past the Hawkins Lady Hawks and into the Class 2A Region 3 softball semifinals.
Kerens advanced to play Groveton May 20-21 at Whitehouse High School for another best-of-three series. The Kerens-Groveton series winner will play in the May 28 Regional final against the victor between Como-Pickton and Lovelady. From there, the Region 3 winner advances to the State tournament May 31-June 4.

Athens honors athletes at annual banquet

ATHENS–Athens High School honored their student-athletes for all their accomplishments throughout the 2021-22 school year at their annual athletic banquet May 10 at the Cain Center.
Beginning the year with volleyball, cross country and football all the way through the last pitch of softball and baseball along with track athletes competing, the 2021-22 school year was a return to normal for the Hornets and Lady Hornets.

MABANK–Mabank coaches, athletes, family and friends gathered Sunday, May 15 at Mabank High School to honor athletes and coaches for what was quite a memorable year for the Panthers and Lady Panthers.
For the Mabank tennis team, Most Improved went to Anthony Duran with Panther Heart going to Keegan Kirlin. The boys’ MVP went to Colin Loudan with the girls’ MVP going to Ana Martinez.

Kerens takes Area softball title over Rivercrest

TYLER–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats clinched the Area championship by blanking Rivercrest over two games May 6-7 and move on to the Regional quarterfinals, facing Hawkins in another best-of-three series set for May 12-14.
Versus Rivercrest, in the first game May 6, Kerens scored in every inning for an 11-0 run-rule victory. The Lady ‘Cats scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and added two more runs in the fourth inning.

The Mabank Lady Panthers celebrate their Area championship after 16-2 and 10-0 victories over North Lamar May 6-7 at Winnsboro High School. Mabank will face Pleasant Grove in the Regional quarterfinals May 12-14. Game one is at 6 p.m., Thursday May 12, game two is at 6 p.m., Friday May 13 and game three (if necessary) will take place at 12:30 p.m., Saturday May 14. All games will be played at Winnsboro High School.

Kerens wins Bi-district softball title over Big Sandy

KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats outscored Big Sandy by 20-1 over two games April 26-27 to sweep the best-of-three Bi-district championship series and advance to the Area round.
Kerens next faces Rivercrest in Area action, in another best-of-three series. The first game was scheduled May 6, with games two and three (if necessary) set for May 7. The games are hosted at Tyler Legacy High School.
