Kayaker perishes after capsizing on CCL

Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) documents the daytime search efforts for a 22-year-old kayaker who had capsized May 16 on Cedar Creek Lake near Peninsula Point Terrance on the western edge of Payne Springs, with that person’s body recovered by divers May 17, according to PSFR.

Fishermen survive capsize at CC lake, third found dead

A view of search efforts beginning late on the night of April 2 for a fisherman reported as having gone overboard into the waters of Cedar Creek Lake is provided by Payne Springs Fire Rescue, which said its volunteers were dispatched to a “boat incident” off the shore of Peninsula Point Terrace, a street west of Payne Springs. The body of that man, later identified as 42-year-old Sammy Matlock, of Mabank, was eventually recovered the evening of April 3 by Texas Game Wardens.

The volunteers of Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) were alerted to assist Mabank Fire Department on a large grass fire off of FM 316 and FM 3080 in Mabank Nov. 27. PSFR Brush 1, Tanker 1 and Chief 1 responded to help assist with multiple area departments. As a result, the Whitton Volunteer Fire Department lost one of its trucks in the fire. No injuries were reported.

Payne Springs Fire Rescue responds to accident

During the afternoon hours of Nov. 12, the volunteers of Payne Springs Fire Rescue were alerted to a two vehicle Motor Vehicle Crash at the intersection of Double Bridge Road and Palo Pinto Pass in Cherokee Shores. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The intersection was closed until the vehicles could be removed.

Multi-vehicle accident on SH 198

The volunteers of Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) were alerted to a multiple vehicle collision on State Highway 198 just north of the bridge to Caney City July 30.  Units arrived to find everyone out of the vehicles with only minor injuries. The third vehicle that was involved was unoccupied and was parked on the side of the road. PSFR Engine 1, Engine 2 and Squad 1 responded. Additional volunteers also handled a medical call in the district at the same time.
