Lake-area ESDs to ask May 3 voters for tax increase

HENDERSON COUNTY–At the March 11 Henderson County Commissioners’ Court meeting, the court was told that three emergency services districts (ESDs) around Cedar Creek Lake will present a voter proposition for a tax increase during the May 3 election.
Those ESDs are No. 1 (based in Trinidad), No. 2 (based in Payne Springs) and No. 4 (based in Tool).

Deer disease detected in Kaufman County breeding facility

AUSTIN–Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) received confirmation of two cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a Kaufman County deer breeding facility, the department announced March 10. This is the first CWD detection in a deer breeding facility in the county, according to TPWD.

The Seven Points City Hall is closed due to the damage from storms March 3. Mayor Keith Betts has acquired help from Hamilton 360 to remodel existing office space for the police department, city hall and municipal courts at 715 S. Seven Points Drive (State Highway 274). Betts is hopeful to have all work completed and departments moved into the building by Monday, March 17. Betts is working under a disaster proclamation so the work can be expedited. Mabank prepares for future water needs

An illustration of the new $5,905,510., 750,000 gallon-water tower located on U.S. Highway 175 in Mabank. A completion date is set for June. The tower is part of a $28,798,000 water infrastructure update that will support the steady growth of the City of Mabank, according to Mabank City Administrator Bryant Morris.

Kemp man arrested, charged with animal cruelty

GUN BARREL CITY–The Gun Barrel City Police Department responded to the Gun Barrel City Park involving a dog that was dumped and abandoned at Burger King, located at 151 W Main Street, Gun Barrel City Feb. 16 at approximately 2:22 p.m.
Officers secured the dog at the Gun Barrel City Animal Control kennels. Animal Control and officers investigated the offense and located several witnesses and security camera footage of this criminal offense.
